The Shimmer Effect – Mechanosensitive (2013)

/Electronic pop, Downtempo, New Age, Psyambient/

Comment: actually I do have some problems to catch at the quintessence of this album because it chimes in a sultry, beatific (almost psychedelic) way straggling and coming together as a whole of repeated cycles relentlessly. It sounds almost like “live” music though the sounds represented over there used to be processed with electronic devices and sequencers. It might be nowadays New Age music saturated with exuberant rhythms and blissful spaced-out aesthetics. Or is it a kind of psychedelic ambient music full of flickering chords and motives? The rhythms are juxtaposed against blossoming sonic glimpses to root, extend and make an impression. The result is magniloquent and deep enough at the same time.

The Shimmer Effect - Uranometria (2012)

9.3

/Downtempo, Ambient techno, World fusion, Chill out, Experimental electronica, Psytrance, Chilltronica/

Comment
: behind TSE are The PantherLab (Sjanine Steyn), and Salook (Stephen Mullarkey). This is a bridge between South Africa, and Scotland. Uranometria is their debut album which used to fuse African rhythms and shamanic breath with European electronic charm and accuracy. However, the result seems to be very cozy and relaxing and refreshing. The listener can perceive the traces of ambient techno a la The Orb, and some psychedelic trance vibes in between. The album is released on the South African label Bushmen Records which is known as the domestic label for X-Structure in the first place.

9.0

/Downtempo, Psyambient, Electronic pop, World music, Chillout, Mood music/

Comment: X-Structure, a quartet from the Republic of South Africa is back with their brand new one. Similarly to their previous album (The Past) it is drawn upon the time category and used to shimmer like an iceberg in the sunshine or brown, sunburned landscape. By being massive, and a little bit mystical, the album represents the vision of electronic Africa, because of below those soothing, mostly majestic synth layers are deeply buried different shapes and patterns of the Black continent. Chill and alert.

X-Structure - New Earth (2011)

/Space-trip, Downtempo, Shoegazetronica, Synth pop, Ethnotronica, World music, Psyambient/

Comment: This is the 12th issue by X-Structure, a quartet from the Republic of South Africa which started out only in 2008. It is highly appreciated via their very holistic approach compiled of diverse genres which the quartet themselves used to entitle as space-trip. More concretely, it veers from psychedelic ambient and downtempo to the shades of electronic shoegaze and thrilling, synth pop-induced world/indigenous fusion. Altogether, during these 92 minutes you can get charged up through a loads of sublime vibes and moods.
